Golden Age of Poverty Reduction Essay
à à à à The presentation of the article related to poverty reduction does not seem too optimistic whether the global aim was actually achieved. Basically, the main argument is that poverty reduction provides only the rate of presented resolutions to alleviate the problem. However, the real figures of people under poverty are not really reflected. As time forwarded from the late 19th century up to the present, there was an actual development of social welfare services especially in the health care sector. This prompted world populations to increase and obtain extended life expectancies. But the issue of disparity between the rich and the poor was not really reduced but worsened. The main factor to blame is the capitalistsââ¬â¢ attitude towards profitability. They fuel growth in economies but also become the catalyst for the social inequalities to expand. To summarize the main argument, general poverty incidences could have been reduced more if economic inequality had not worsened (The Free Library, 2006). References The Free Library. 2006. Babelââ¬â¢s Internal Conflicts Essay
Babelââ¬â¢s collection of short stories Red Cavalry was one of the first books that exposed the Russian people to the harsh realities of the Polish-Soviet war. At first the stories seem to be historical fiction meant to entertain; however, upon closer reading these stories become pieces that convey strong moral, religious, political and emotional sentiment. Each short story represents a certain theme, but it is My First Goose that encompasses very well Babelââ¬â¢s feelings towards his own identity. The story illuminates the dynamic relationship between the insider and the outsider through careful use of imagery, tone, and imagery. More specifically, My First Goose addresses Babelââ¬â¢s conflicted sense of identity and self as a Jewish man. In My First Goose, as well as in many of Babelââ¬â¢s other works, the narrator is an ambiguous character that resembles the author (in what way? How do you we know this? ). Although very little information is given about the narrator, by the end of the story readers understand the narratorââ¬â¢s conflict with his identity (this sentence doesnââ¬â¢t really fit here; it is a bit off topic from the rest of the paragraph). The narrator is introduced as an outsider, one who is neither racially (is he a different race? ) nor physically equal to the men of the 6th Division. Savitsky, the first ââ¬Å"insiderâ⬠that is introduced (phrasing is stylistically awkward), is depicted as a extremely masculine figure whose ââ¬Å"long legs looked like two girls were wedged to their shoulders in riding bootsâ⬠and whose built body ââ¬Å"split the hut like a banner splitting the skyâ⬠. The erotic (perhaps ââ¬Å"erotically despicted/described/portrayedâ⬠) , masculine Cossack stands in stark contrast to the envious, feeble, timid, glasses wearing ââ¬Å"powder puffâ⬠. Babel chooses to depict the ethnic other as virile and powerful while painting the narrator, a man whom he closely resembles, as a weak, almost effeminate, creature. The choice to do so indicates that the author cannot come to terms with his identity; rather he longs to be as strong and macho as the Cossacks. From the narrators exchange with Savitsky, ââ¬Å"Ha, you lousy fellow, you! They send you to us, no one even asks us if we want you here! â⬠it is suggested that the narrator is an outsider, an intellectual with traits associated with Jews. And even when verbally assaulted the narrator still ââ¬Å"envied the flower and iron of Savitskyââ¬â¢s [that] youthâ⬠. Moreover, it is the portrayals of the obvious difference in strength, sexuality, and confidence between the narrator and Savitsky that suggests that Babel viewed his Jewishness as a source of shame. Instead of respecting the fact that the narrator can read and write, skills that were very rare, the Cossack leader mocks the narrator telling him that he would ââ¬Å"get hacked to pieces just for wearing glassesâ⬠. And even when shown an obscene gesture by a young peasant the narrator still admires the face of the boy, futher emphasizing how unacceptable he is as a Jew. By accepting his inferiority the narrator further emphasizes his distain for identity. The obvious difference between the narrator and the commander that the author chooses to convey shows how the narrator, and to a certain extent the author, feels his ââ¬Å"Jewishnessâ⬠makes him inadequate compared to the Cossack soldiers. This paragraph seems a bit unfocused; see if you can pull out the two (? ) main threads and build separate paragraphs around each of them, with a clear, unifying topic sentence for each one) The narratorââ¬â¢s conflict with himself reaches a tipping point when he meets the old woman, and at this point he must make a choice to be an insider or outsider. This crucial decision characterized the reason for Babelââ¬â¢s short story, and he consciously choose to allow the narrator make the choice he did (sentence is awkwardly phrased). After settling down, the narrator begins to read, showing that he is still in touch with his intellectual and Jewish nature; however, he decides to stop reading when he encounters a old woman with glasses (this seems more summary than argument). The bespectacled old woman recognizes him as a Jewish ââ¬Å"comradeâ⬠and seeks sympathy from her fellow Jew commenting that ââ¬Å"this business makes me want to hang myselfâ⬠. At this point the narrator and the author is (subject verb agreement; but also, is the author faced with a choice? faced with a choice: he could acknowledge the old woman as kin and defend his Jewish identity, or he could heed the advice of the quartermaster and ââ¬Å"mess up a ladyâ⬠. The narrator, and more importantly the author (why ââ¬Å"more importantly the authorâ⬠? ), decides to violate the only thing the old woman has left. This violation is symbolic: the narrator pushes the white neck of the goose into excrement and pierces the neck of the goose with the sword of another Cossack then forces the woman to cook the goose. With this act the narrator discards his Jewish identity, crushing it in dung, killing it with a borrowed sword. (Here, for example, is a possible place for a paragraph break; then start with a new topic sentence)And only after he has proven his masculinity is he accepted to eat with his new ââ¬Å"brothersâ⬠. The narrators is offered a seat at the dinner table and given pork to eat, which he eats without question, with this communion his conversion by the ââ¬Å"heathen priestsâ⬠is complete. By having the narrator make this choice, Babel not only implies that he may have made the same decision, but also condones the idea of discarding the weakness and intellectualism associated with Jews in favor of violence and ignorance of the Cossacks (thatââ¬â¢s a big claim to makeââ¬âbe careful about trying to read the authorââ¬â¢s mind! ). At this point it seems that the narrator has completely discarded his Jewishness and embraces his new identity. After his communion with the Cossacks it seems (the repetition of ââ¬Å"it seemsâ⬠is wishy-washy and non-committal) that the narrator has completely left his identity behind, but it is soon evident that parts of him (wording) remain Jewish, remnants of his Jewishness that cannot be erased (awkward phrasing). Upon completing his violent and brutal killing, the narrator returns to his role as an intellectual and reads a speech given by Lenin to his new comrades. This shows that no matter how hard the narrator tries to escape his identity, he is still the feeble intellectual who has to borrow the sword of a Cossack to kill. The narrator is allowed to sleep with the Cossacks, (that citation doesnââ¬â¢t really add anything here) but even the warmth and camaraderie the narrator receives does not allow him to escape his actions. The last line reveals that a part of him will never be able to accept what he did to gain acceptance from the Cossacks. His heart ââ¬Å"screeched and bledâ⬠from his denial of his Jewish identity. Killing the goose and eating pork directly violated his Jewish morals and although superficially he expressed no remorse, subconsciously he cannot accept the Cossack ways. This ambivalent attitude towards oneââ¬â¢s identity characterizes Babelââ¬â¢s feelings towards his own attitude. In this story we see a narrator who struggles with the definition of self, and this struggle directly reflects Babelââ¬â¢s own struggles. (again, this paragraph seems to jump from point to point to much; make sure each paragraph is built around a unifying topic sentence; see if you can pull out two point from this one paragraph and bring them out more clearly by creating a separate paragraph for each one) In not only My First Goose, but in most of the short stories of Red Calvary the narrator struggles with his identity as a Jew. Although one cannot be sure what Babel attempts to convey in his pieces, it is clear that the narrators of Babelââ¬â¢s stories undergo the same mental turmoil Babel went through during his service in the Polish Soviet war (this last sentence doesnââ¬â¢t really work as a conclusion).

US Policy toward the Kazakhstan Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words
US Policy toward the Kazakhstan - Term Paper Example From the very beginning United States had brought down some set of objectives in Central Asia, and had stuck these ideas to Kazakhstan, for this reason Kazakhstan remained the heart of Central Asia forever (Legvold, 82). The first country to recognize Kazakhstan was United States and this recognition took place on December 25, 1991. Since then a very strong bond had developed between these two countries (Kazakhstan). The administrations of United States starting from George H.W Bush to Clinton had made strategic decisions to achieve their goals (Legvold, 67). U.S. Policy According to President Obama main motive of Kazakhstan is to make sure that the country is well developed and stabilization is maintained in political sphere of the nation. According to the administration, Kazakhstan has made remarkable progress, and this was possible as U.S. had supported them throughout and finally the country gained independence in the year 1991 and could achieve their goals. For FY2012, U.S. government had helped to strengthen Kazakhstan as a strategic partner. The Obama administration had helped in launching annual bilateral consultations on various financial and political issues with Kazakhstan. The first meeting took place in Washington, DC, in the month of March 2010 and the second meeting took place in Astana which is Kazakhstanââ¬â¢s capital. ... The two leaders also decided various other ways by which Kazakhstan would help Afghanistan expand their transportation network in the northern region. President Obama also decided to continuously support the efforts of the government of Kazakhstan and helped in liberalizing its media and smoothen its political system with the help of legal reforms. Furthermore keeping in mind Obamaââ¬â¢s interest in Kazakhstan, a consulate general named Almaty was opened (Nichol, 12-13). Economic Development of Kazakhstan Kazakhstan is one of the most financially developed nations of the Central Asian Republics. A major portion of the GDP is generated by two sectors that are Oil and Gas. Kazakhstan has been ranked sixth in the field of producing wheat, and it is also known to be the major exporter of wheat in the world. Around 33% of the population lies below the poverty line. President Nazarbayev had launched a plan to create a financially well developed, educated and self-sufficient country with in 2030.Again in 2005 he proposed to bring Afghanistan within the top 50 developed countries of the world in the next ten years. He emphasized on restoring tax and budgetary policies and paid more attention to developing the manufacturing sector so that the GDP growth not solely depends on the Oil and Gas sectors. In the year 2010, President Nazarbayev proposed a five year plan to give a big push to the industrial sector, in order to reach their goal as planned for 2030 (Nichol, 7-8). The Kazakhstan Massacre December 16, 2011 could have been one of the most memorable days for the people of Afghanistan as the nation became independent on that very day. But inspite of being a day of celebration, it was transformed into a doomââ¬â¢s day. Due to the Kazakhstan Massacre,

Reading responese 4 Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Reading responese 4 - Assignment Example The first one is human egocentrism. In fact, it follows from the title of the article itself that one of the themes deals with this very issue. The author of the article is supposed to review the Maine Lobster Festival for Gourmet magazine and its target audience and, by this, promote and advertise the festival. However, it is not his main agenda. Instead of promoting the festival, the author discusses the cruel ways of cooking a lobster in minor details, such as a discussion of sensory neurons of these crustaceans. In this regard, Wallace refers to peopleââ¬â¢s reasoning that they have a right to eat lobsters because the latter are much more primitive creatures. In addition to this, the author of the piece touches upon the notion of tourism, explores its essence and its influence on people engaged in this activity. More specifically, he claims that a person gains nothing from it and that the more people travel to a particular place the more this place is ruined by these people. I n other words, Wallace believes that tourism has nothing to do with knowledge and learning more about the world and self. One of the most notable things about Wallaceââ¬â¢s piece under discussion is his use of footnotes. In fact, he changes this feature of academic writing into something more alive, meaningful and sense-bearing. Some of the foot notes do perform their initial, main task, which is to explain and comment a certain part of the text above it, such as the first one. However, the majority of them are designated to perform other tasks. Wallaceââ¬â¢s footnotes are essential to the story and readerââ¬â¢s understating of its tone and intentions of the author. They are the actual pieces of the text in which he doubts, criticizes and even asks questions. In fact, sometimes it even seems that it is not the text of the short story itself but the footnotes that contain the authorââ¬â¢s main point on the issue. They are like a playwrightââ¬â¢s remarks in a play that does not interfere

SELF-ANALYSIS Ensure that the self-analysis is relevant to the proposed service and that you make the comparisons. Security is a personal take due to the influences of the environment. I have researched widely on security from a personal interest to understand the key components of such a business. My fascination with security systems and creations has aroused my interest and eventual understanding of a business that has a potential market that has not been exploited fully. To run a security services business, one ought to have a number of skills, abilities and competencies. It is hard to find all these traits in a single individual but for the lack of them, employment of qualified complementary individuals should have a fully functional team. I am well placed to run such a business because the security business requires verbal and spatial aptitudes. I am also flexible and attentive to detail. Th e use of the important critical thinking and decision making is also imperative in management and running of the business. The knowledge of the market and the information acquired from previous observation and research has also put me in an apt place to deliver in the business. The security service business however requires leadership, firmness and general managerial skills which I lack. This predisposed the business for failure but with the employment of a manager, this will be taken care of. The potential market requires competitiveness and abrasiveness; it is a business for the tough. It requires knowledge of the changing security services, creativity to lure customers and the innovativeness to keep them. Previous experience is important as it is expediency for start-up and growth. The market also looks up to the service providers for deployment of guards who have a set of expected ethics and who can conduct themselves properly and sensibly in the line of duty. This therefore cal ls from leadership and role modeling. It also means that enforcement of discipline on the workforce is key. As I am not endowed with such competence and skill, I will source an experienced manager who should oversee operations and human resource. This will cater for my lack of prior experience and also have the effect upon the employees to give guidance and set an example. The leadership of such an individual will be the back that the reputation of the company will ride on. California has a set societal

Homeland Security Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words
Homeland Security - Essay Example This essay discusses that the Threat Analysis Division is entrusted with the duty of detecting vulnerable areas in USAââ¬â¢s critical infrastructure framework and its vital resources. It functions through its four main divisions. The Alternative Analysis Division utilizes alternative analysis instruments and techniques to recognize critical assumptions, challenge their results and finally arrive at a conclusion. This Division works in collaboration with the analysts of the I&A. The Collections and Requirements Division has been allotted the duty of identifying fundamental ISR capabilities of the DHS and accordingly constructs the required ISR enterprise architectures. The Plans and the Integration Division is responsible for integrating the plans and programs of the overall intelligence enterprise of the DHS. The Information Sharing and Knowledge Management Division monitors the information technology resources of the DHS and ensures their proper governance. In conclusion, It is ev ident from the above discussion that, The United States has to deal with the potential threat of the internal terrorist organizations along with the external dangers of terrorism. In fact, the US intelligence agencies have identified these home-grown branches of the militant groups as an immediate danger to the country considering their easy access to Americaââ¬â¢s resources and its people. After the September 11, 2001ââ¬â¢s terrorist attacks the Federal Government had adopted a two-pronged approach to counter-terrorism.... Security agency studies have predicted that this trend will continue in the future as well. Ever since the Al-Quaedaââ¬â¢s attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, the United States has intensified its efforts to counter terrorism and eradicate the terrorist groups completely. The US Homeland Security Advisory Council has set up a special cell called the ââ¬ËThe Future of Terrorism Taskforceââ¬â¢ for this purpose. According to a report of the Taskforce, there is a high possibility that the US and its allied countries will experience an increase in the frequency and magnitude of terrorist activities in the near future. Thus, the Federal Government should consider ââ¬Ëterrorismââ¬â¢ as a chronic problem and adopt a sustained evolutionary strategy to counter its ill-effects. In fact, there are international terrorist organizations which have established their bases in the country and conduct their militant activities centering round these operational camps . The after-effects of globalization, the polarization of the US economy and the rising income-inequality have all created a conducive atmosphere for these terrorist groups to flourish and expand their networks in the domestic territory. The US needs to be extra careful regarding these indigenous terrorist groups since they pose an immediate danger to the national security. (Lijn, 2011,p.2) American security experts have not been satisfied by the existing US Homeland Security System in the past. The terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 had prompted the Federal Government under President Bush to implement a two-pronged strategy to counter global terrorism. On one hand the Government undertook a security intelligence operation to identify and locate the terrorist groups and their sponsors and

Leading educational change Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words
Leading educational change - Essay Example In the book entitled Schooling by Design: Mission, Action, and Achievement, Wiggins and McTighe (2007, p. 108) discussed the theory behind the ââ¬Å"Curriculum Design Cycleâ⬠. Although this particular framework is useful in terms of guiding the teachers on how to effectively change and create a new curriculum that can meet the needs of a commnity, this particular model is not applicable when it comes to the need to create educational vision on teacher empowerment. The Innovative Designs for Enhancing Achievements in Schools (IDEAS) by Andrews (2008) is more applicable when it comes to implementing change for the entire educational institution. Lastly, Eacottââ¬â¢s Strategic Model is all about the use of strategies when managing educational administration or educational construct. However, after examining the modern context of educational administration, Eacott (2008, p. 353) found out that the available strategies that can be used in the field of education is ââ¬Å"incomple teâ⬠and ââ¬Å"flawedâ⬠. Therefore, among these three (3) models, the model presented by Andrews (2008) is more applicable when it comes to creating an educational vision that could empower the school teachers. ... ng, group discussion and voting are all equally important when it comes to encouraging all stakeholders to engage themselves in participating in the process of designing a clear and inspiring vision on teacher empowerment. The construct of parallel leadership is one of the main constructs of IDEAS. Basically, the context of parallel leadership is highly dependent on mutualism, personal expression, and shared purpose, values, and beliefs (Andrews, 2008). Using this theory, one can argue that it is essential for both the school administrator and the primary school teachers to develop mutual respect and trust at all times. After developing a sense of mutualism, both parties are expected to work together towards the development of a single vision that could strengthen teacher empowerment within the primary school setting. During the initiative phase, the school administor and the primary school teachers are expected to participate in brainstorming and/or group discussion process. Basical ly, brainstorming is all about encouraging the school personnel to generate group ideas (Isaken & Gaulin, 2005). This will then lead to discovering and envisioning stage (Andrews, 2008). By encouraging the school staff to participate in a group discussion or brain-storming session, the school leader will have the opportunity to detect the personal opinion or stand of each school staff with regards to certain strategies that can be used in the promotion of teacher empowerment. Teacher empowerment is all about being able to strengthen the decision-making power of the primary school teachers through the use of either administrative strategies or pedagogy (Di Gropello, 2006, p. 4). In some cases, excessive use or implementation of rules and regulations, and red tape serves as a barrier behind

Police Corruption Essay Essay Example for Free
Police Corruption Essay Essay Police Corruption can be defined as a form of police misconduct in which law enforcement officers break their social contract and abuse their power for personal or department gain. There are three forms of police corruption. These forms are Nonfeasance, which involves failure to perform legal duty, another form is Misfeasance, which is failure to perform legal duty in a proper manner, and the third form is Malfeasance, which is commission of an illegal act. The three explanations of corruption are the ââ¬Å"rotten applesâ⬠, ââ¬Å"departmentalâ⬠, and the other focuses on factors external to the department. An example of these would be an officer might feel unappreciated for their good work and actions and it might make them corruptible. An example of departmental explanation would be if officers feel uncommitted and unsupported, their outlooks and values are reinforced by others in the group which may lead to lack of commitment in their job, thereby leading to corruption. Some police officers may abuse their power because they see themselves as not enforcers of the law, but them as the law itself. The ââ¬Å"blue wall of silenceâ⬠is a term used in the United States to denote the unwritten rule that exists among officers, where they should not report on a colleagueââ¬â¢s misconduct, errors, or crimes. This may impact an officerââ¬â¢s loyalty to their profession because they are not doing their job if they are letting another officer get away with crimes, and if they did report it then they would be breaking their loyalty to fellow cops. Itââ¬â¢s important for officers to have a good ethical foundation before they enter into this job because it would help prevent them from doing wrong and abusing their power. In the ââ¬Å"Stopped for Being a Muttâ⬠video, I realized how bad some officers can act sometimes. The teen was stopped and questioned multiple times for looking suspicious, when really they were just racist. They were trying to provoke the teenager to justify an arrest. I feel the form of police corruption they were doing was misfeasance. Stopping someone because of their race, when they werenââ¬â¢t committing any crimes is humiliating to that person and is wrong of any cop to abuse their power in this way. The ââ¬Å"Blue wall of silenceâ⬠comes up in this type of situation because some other copsà witness it and knows that this goes on when officers have low numbers of stops, and they donââ¬â¢t want to tell because they donââ¬â¢t want to seem disloyal to their fellow police officers. In the ââ¬Å"Los Angeles Police Departmentâ⬠video, they talked about the Rampart and Crash scandal. When I watched this video I was in disbelief that, that many officers were implicated in some form of misconduct. I understand that they wanted to get gangs and crimes off the street but this was no way of going about it. They would shoot or beat people when they were unprovoked. They would steal narcotics and plant false evidence, and frame suspects and cover up all that these officers were doing because it was getting rid of the gangs and ââ¬Å"hoodlumsâ⬠. I canââ¬â¢t understand how these officers didnââ¬â¢t think what they were doing was wrong and immoral. This form of corruption in this particular situation was malfeasance. What they were doing was illegal, and they are here to protect and obey the law. In the ââ¬Å"Behind the Blue Wallâ⬠video. I was extremely shocked to see the police brutality that occurred in these cases. I donââ¬â¢t understand how an officer could deliberately torment a victim because of their race and think they can get away with what theyââ¬â¢re doing and that it isnââ¬â¢t wrong. Malfeasance is the form of corruption that comes up in these cases because what they are doing is illegal. The unlawful beatings and shootings of these victims, when they are not provoking the officers; is completely wrong and these cases need to stop. The Blue wall of silence also comes up in these cases because there were officers who knew about what happened and what the other officers were doing and instead of reporting it, they attempted to cover it up. Co-workers should treat those who inform authorities of illegal activity in the police agency the same as how they treated them before they reported corruption. In the virtue ethics perspective, the habit of right desire, he was making the right choice by reporting corruption because he knew that what was going on in the agency wasnââ¬â¢t right and needed to be stopped. Frank Serpicoââ¬â¢s response to this case was ââ¬Å"Itââ¬â¢s always worth it to be at peace with yourself.â⬠I think this does imply reasoning of ethical thought. Ià think Serpico meant that, as long as you feel good with what you are doing, and you are doing what you think is right, then that is all the matters. I agree with this because no matter what happens in the end, it is all worth it if you are at peace and happy with what you did. There are conflicts presented in terms of loyalty and duty. Loyalty is a good to have, but it is not a virtue. If loyalty is treated as a virtue, it can be misguided. It will lead to protection of illegal conduct and can turn into corruption. Officers may want to be loyal to fellow officers and not report what is really going on, however they also want to do their duty, and want to report because it is their duty to not participate in the corruption. The blue wall of silence impacts conflicting loyalty because it is an unwritten rule amongst officers to not report a fellow officerââ¬â¢s mistakes, misconducts, or crimes. This affects them if they want to be loyal to those officers and be loyal to their civic duty as well. If I was an officer in this situation, I would definitely report these crimes. I donââ¬â¢t believe in the blue wall of silence. I think that if an officer is doing something illegal then it needs to be reported and dealt with. Just because they are officers doesnââ¬â¢t mean they should be able to get away with things that they are arresting other citizens for doing.

Definitions of events management Essay Example for Free
Definitions of events management Essay Events management can be said to have emerged from the increasing commercialisation of popular celebrations, from big affairs such as concerts to small and private gatherings. Bowdin, et al. explained that in certain historical aspects, the increasing importance of events were noted because of the benefits they bring as enumerated through its purpose and objectives. An example noted by the authors were the emergence of the industry as encouraged by political and religious reasons; this happened in the United Kingdom where exhibitions became a popular event that it needed to be sustained. The approach to the sustainability of events, especially as this would lead to the formation of an industry, would then become integral to the management requirements of this practice. Across the world, the management of events would become a more formal approach in organizing festivals and other festivities. Bowdin, et al. therefore presented the following definition of events as follows (14): ââ¬Å"[â⬠¦] anything which happens; result; any incidence or occurrence esp (sic) a memorable one; contingency or possibility of occurrence; an item in a programme (of sports, etc.); A type of horseriding competition, often held over three days (three-day event) consisting of three sections ie dressage, cross country riding and show jumping; fortune or fate (obs); an organized activity at a particular venue, eg. for sales promotion or fundraising. â⬠Based on these definitions, the events that fall under event management are applicable in all aspects. Basically, the last definitiion, ââ¬Å"an organized activity at a particular venue, eg. for sales promotion or fundraisingâ⬠(14) can be said to already encompass what an event is. However, it should be also noted that the fundamentals of events management also refers to the uniqueness of the event, hence, it is memorable. At the same time, an event may have many sub-events such as ââ¬Å"itemsâ⬠. Last but not the least, as based on the cited definition, an event also includes contingency or possibility of occurrence. This therefore brings up the aspect of events management in which case it is not just about ensuring that the event takes place, but also the management formalises the event in a sense that it is defined by a specific strategy. As previously mentioned, an event in the events management context becomes a project; in this case, the aspects of project management is applied. It is initially important to define what a project is, and according to Bowdin, et al, (267), an event as a project ââ¬Å"produces an asset [â⬠¦] the asset is the ultimate deliverable of the project. The management is the planning, the organizing, leading, and controlling of the projectâ⬠. Hence, based on these, Bowdin, et al. presented the definition of event management in the following (267): ââ¬Å"The project management of events concentrates on the management process to create the event, not just what happens at the event [â⬠¦] (it) is called the overlay as it integrates all the tasks of management. Event management is made up of a number of management areas including planning, leading, marketing, design, control and budgeting, risk management, logistics, staging and evaluation. Each of these areas continuously affect each other over the event life cycleâ⬠. Shone and Parry, furthermore, mentioned that in order for an event to be managed in a similar context, the event has to be ââ¬Å"specialâ⬠; based on this, the authors presented the following pointing out the definitions of events that are managed: â⬠¢ Leisure events (leisure, sport recreation) â⬠¢ Personal events (weddings, birthdays, anniversaries) â⬠¢ organisational events (commercial, political, charitable, sales) â⬠¢ cultural (ceremonial, sacred, heritage, art, folklore) The Events Management Concept and Practice Event management is therefore a discipline and a practice. There are many concepts and aspects of event management that needs to be considered especially among those who specialise in certain components of the practice. One of the common perceptions of event management is its dimension as a coordinating activities. Silvers (28) mentioned that in event coordination, the coordinators visualise, organise and synchronise the different elements of an event. In addition, in event coordination, the coordinator also identifies the purpose, scope and the program of the event by means of identifying its intent, extent, and content. Another important point raised by Silvers (28) is that, in agreement with the past discussions on the nature of event management as similar or related to project management, the author also further mentioned the processes involved both in the coordination and the management of events. These aspects, for instance, is through the discussion on the Project Scope (28-29): â⬠¢ Identifying the needs and requirements of the event including the definition of its purpose and the expected outcomes â⬠¢ the description of the product as spelled out by the type of event â⬠¢ product analysis or the identification of the components of the product â⬠¢ the feasibility of the product as based on the analysis of the resources From these, the event becomes more definite through the design of a Work Breakdown Structure and Activity Schedule (29). Another important approach in event management can be considered in the perceptions of the customers, competition and the sponsors. Silvers discussed the aspect of the consumers and the competition. According to the author, the customers make up the ââ¬Å"marketing realmâ⬠of the event (30). Hence, it is important to identify a target segment because this helps in the design of the event, from its scope to its marketing to its implementation. Silvers also discussed the competition; for cases such as bars and clubs, any weekend night poses a great amount of competition for any establishment holding an event that night. As the author stressed, it is significant that the bar or club is aware what kind of other events that will take place in another establishment. It is therefore in the strategy of the club or bar owner, along with its hired events specialist, to determine how to best approach competition.

How do Dell and Compaq sustain their position in market? Every company in the market have a position and always want to sustain its position in the market. For this, Every company uses some strategies and some process for making their sales better and remain top on the market. Dell and HPQ(Compaq) also follows some strategies and some process for growing their sales. Dell works on following strategies to sustain its position in market Direct Sales Partnership with Suppliers Research Development Customer Services Direct Sales : Direct sales means direct to customer. This is the best and most successful strategy of the Dell, this was followed for providing best product on effective cost. It was also called Eliminate the Middleman Strategy, Everyone knows that if a product is Sold directly to the end user, then it will reduce the cost of the product. Just like that Dell also sells its products direct to its customers. So that middleman will be eliminated and customer will get good quality product on company cost. Dell removed all the middleman retailers and started selling laptop directly to customers via Websites and other sources. Partnership with Suppliers : Dell planned to make combination with other suppliers, who sell Dell laptops. The Dell made partnership agreement with suppliers for the profit of both parties. Dell convinced them to Sell Dell laptops more and more with extreme priority. For that, Dell will provide them Dell laptops on low cost for Selling with Good Margin. When a supplier will get good margin on a laptop, then obviously he will focus on selling that particular product more and more. Dells this Strategy worked very effectively and got better results. Research and Development: The Dell always believed in selling laptops directly. Its Direct to Customer Strategy helped in getting much improvement and new Ideas of Development in technology. One of the reasons of Dell for being popular is the continuous and better development in Laptop Technology and product quality. Dell is consistently improving products and quality. The most important thing is that Dell always comes with a Product better than last one. So from last few years, Dell is winning heart of the customers specially students and professional persons. Dells research development department is very progressive and this strategy help a lot for being popular in Laptop industry. Customer Services: Dells customer services are Excellent and impressive. Dell provides 247 customer support. This Strategy helps Dell in making trust on customer about Service after sales. Because selling a product is not much harder but after selling, maintenance and providing support is very hard and important. Dell provides many types of customer services for improving company value. Dell provides technical support, Replacement of Defected product, online technical support, information about problems related to laptop. In early years Dell was moving backward because of its customer services. So after that companys chairman Michael Dell ordered to improve customers services and it helped in receiving Feedback from customers and it was a big help for Dell in improving product quality. HP(Compaq) works on following strategies to sustain its position in market Telling Stories approach Using Digital Media Opening doors a little Store to store strategy Telling Stories approach: Telling stories approach means transferring and giving message in a narrative or detailed way. This strategy generally follows the rule that Tell a story, what a customer want to hear means on what thing a customer believe, or what product and technology a customer want to buy, HPQs this approach help in making good relation with customers and made believe and develop relationship between customer and the Brand. This is most old and effective approach to make a laptop or companys brand efficient, effective and in touch. Using Digital Media: Using Digital Media approach has four different parts. Which are shown below:- First part is Partnering with MySpace, MySpace is a social networking site and HP made a partnership with this site to make a trust in customers about the brand and this strategy became successful in many aspects. The second part in this approach is contests on youtube.com for creating videos and by this HPQ got good results. Many people took part in this contest and got prizes and came to know about the products of HP(Compaq). The third part is HP idea labs. In this HP made and strategy which helped in getting better ideas from customers about the improvement in brands and getting good results. Opening doors a Little : A laptop company uses its Developer teams mind and its thinking in developing laptops. The employees who work in the company always thinks and try to develop something better than current. But what will happen if a company gets ideas from the customers and use it for improving its product quality. HP started this approach for getting new ideas from the customers and it helped in using customers talent in designing new products and technologies. For example recently HP started a competition on MTV to Design new notebooks and give these designs to HP and get money and many more prizes. After starting of this show, many customers participated in the contest and did their best in designing notebook with new technology. By this competition, HP got many new ideas for manufacturing and improving its laptops. Store to store strategy : Store to store strategy is an approach for improving sales of laptops. Basically it is a mini island type store within a large retail outlet. This island store is independent, exclusive to its own products and laptops, atmosphere and associates. The main aim of this strategy is to provide customers with an experience and that experience will exceed the expectations of the customers. Since every company follow different type of strategies to sustain its position in the laptop market . Dell has its strategies related to customers needs and HP has company need related strategies. Dell considers that the laptop market in other area of world is same as US and UK. But HP thinks that every region in the world carries variability in laptop market. So it changes its target according to the location and region. HP follows the principle of Polycentrism. Whereas Dell follows the principle of ethnocentrism. How the customer responds to the changes in market? Whenever there happens a change in market, customer quickly responds to the market, it may be Positive respond or may be negative respond and the companies also get affected by these changes, because whenever a change happens, a customer thinks that there should be new thing or new technology in the market. And according to that change, customers responds to the market. Due to changes in Market Customer Require more efficient technology with effective cost. Customer will require product delivery in short time, Customer will move toward new technology, so that old product technology will be ignored. New offers and schemes will be available in market. Competition will be more and more. When there will be a change in market and new technology will be introduced, then customer will think that he should get best laptop on reasonable price. Then it will be more difficult for a laptop company to manage good quality product on low cost.

Racism in Heart of Darkness :: essays research papers
What is racism? Racism can be defined as ââ¬â ââ¬Å"The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others.â⬠Racism occurs when a racist group finds it necessary to put down other ethnic groups in an attempt to strengthen their own. A very strong racist comment or action might make the other group feel hurtful, degrading, humiliating. The novel, ââ¬Å"Heart of darknessâ⬠, written by Joseph Conrad provides such instances which are racist and biased against the people living in Africa. Heart of Darkness is a story in which racism presents itself so deliberately that, for many, the dilemma of race must be tackled before anything else in the book may be dealt with. Conrad used derogatory, outdated and offensive terminology for devaluation of peopleââ¬â¢s color as savages. This use of language disturbs many readers who read this book. Although Conrad uses racist language in this book, it doesnââ¬â¢t mean that he is really racist. When we look at the language, we are just looking at the very surface of the story. Heart of Darkness is a story full of irony and deception. At one point, Conrad made a very interesting point. He suggested that the light is used to indicate deceit in Heart of Darkness. Conrad uses the character of Marlow to make use of his own thoughts and views about the people in the Congo. He feels pity for them as he sees them falling down carrying heavy packages and Kurtz commanding them like a batallion of troups. This sight angers Marlow and when he gets to Kurtz, itââ¬â¢s too late. Even he has been pulled in by the darkness. Conrad makes an effective distinction between Marlow and Kurtz.

The Affect of Acupuncture on the Nervous System :: Biology Essays Research Papers
The Affect of Acupuncture on the Nervous System Acupuncture is an ancient practice which arouse in China at least two thousand years ago and has been used since then by healers to cure people of their ailments. The art is focused on the Qi (pronounced chee), which is the energy flow through the body. It is believed acupuncture helps to stimulate different areas of energy flow which can help cure pain and sickness(1). Although acupuncture has been around for a long time the validity of the techniques and results has been questioned by many medical specialists. Only fairly recently (mid 20th Century) did this practice come to the United States and it has yet to be accepted as a certifiable medical practice. Even though this is the case, acupuncture has been used to help treat asthma, myopia, diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, hypertension, stroke and obesity, just to name a few (5). Although the healing affects of acupuncture arenââ¬â¢t fully understood, they have been tied to different physiological changes in the body. As mentioned earlier, the natural energy in the body, Qi, is the focus of the treatment. Qi is connected to the ideas of Yin and Yang, which are two forces that offer balance to life. Yin and Yang have to be together because a disturbance in the relationship leads to disease (1). The image of Yin and Yang demonstrates how they have to be connected, represented by the white and black halves, each with a small circle of the other color. In this belief if the balance of energy in the body is thrown off, then the body becomes weak and sick. In Chinese medicine, when you restore the Qi in the body then health will return. The practice of acupuncture involves sticking very fine needles at different predetermined spots on the body: 365 points in a human body. These points have been uncovered over thousands of years but can not been seen through dissection or microscopy (6). It is believed that the insertion of needles at these points causes the Qi to move to the point. It is said that when a person is experiencing pain, that there is a blockage in the Qi in the body and that the acupuncture returns the flow to normal (1). Many of the acupuncture points are located only millimeters from peripheral nerves in the skin, others are very close to arteries.

Loss of Humanity in The Lottery
In Shirley Jacksonââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"The Lotteryâ⬠there are many themes to pick up on, however the one that seems to be the most important is the theme of humanity. In this short story many things burst out at the reader but the theme of humanity is one that the reader must be looking for. The loss of humanity is apparent in the story because of the activities they are acting upon, their feelings of others, and the connation in which they speak. First and forth most, the lottery in which Jackson rights about is almost the opposite of what most states participate in today. Though the opening statement wouldnââ¬â¢t lead you to believe so, ââ¬Å"The morning of June 27th was clear and sunny, with the fresh warmth of a full-summer dayâ⬠¦the grass was richly greenâ⬠(247) This expositions set the story out to be almost fairy-tale like, by showing the reader a perfect town. However it is far from this, the town is much worse than any evil step mother. The town is participating in an act of murder, even if they believe it is justifiable. The act of the lottery starts off with the gathering of the town. Soon the men began to gatherâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ (247) This than lead to the families gathering with their own. ââ¬Å"The women, standing next to their husbands, began to call the childrenâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ (247) The plot doesnââ¬â¢t become dark until the black box shows up. (248) Once the plot as become dark it stays that way until the ending. ââ¬Å"ââ¬ËIt isnââ¬â¢t fair, it isnââ¬â¢t right,â⬠Mrs. Hutchinson screamed, and then they were upon her. â⬠(252) though there are certainly more than a few examples of the loss of humanity however this the one that sticks out like a sore thumb. When the people are upon her it isnââ¬â¢t a trait of human kind, at not least the human kind of the past few centuries, that is something that animals do and not ââ¬Å"civilizedâ⬠humans. Secondly, the way that they talk about their neighboring towns shows the loss of humanity. First shown with Mr. Adamââ¬â¢s talking of the northern town and the loss of the lottery. When Old Man Warner hears he is all but happy. This was best shown by Brandon Ramos in his article, ââ¬Å"Old Man Warnerââ¬â¢s moral steadfastness helps to keep the village in check. He never even takes the time to explain the importance. He defends it, however, he never explains it. A lot of the villagers probably donââ¬â¢t even know why they do this. â⬠(Ramos) Though the last part does show signs of a modern religion it is not something that is showing the humanity that it should. Not only was Old Man Warner enraged by the statement made about the other town he proceeds to say that it is actually that that makes them less civilized. He even goes as far to say that they are reverting back to old ways, ââ¬Å"Next thing you know, theyââ¬â¢ll be want to go back to living in caves,â⬠(250) He is saying without the lottery they are become cavemen, which is eerie because it is the lottery in fact that makes them even less like cavemen or Greek citizen how worshipped the sun or the gods. This brings it to the last point, the way they speak shows sighs of inhumanity. The most prominent example of this is the title of Ramosââ¬â¢s article. It was said by Old Man Warner, once again, but it read, ââ¬Å"Lottery in June, corn be heavy soon. (250) (Ramos), this suggests that the murder in the lottery is nothing but a sacrifice to make the harvest as plentiful as possible. Another example, though not speech, this example is of body language and how the townââ¬â¢s people showed it off. The way that Tessie is pleading at the end and yet the body language of her fellow tonââ¬â¢s folk is nothing but normal. The last example would be how quickly here friends and family choose to turn on her. Her husband, never even said a word about the result of the lottery. And her friends seemed to have turned on her faster than anyone else did. Mrs. Delacroix selected a stone as large she had to pick it up with both hands and turned to Mrs. Dunbar ââ¬Ëcome on. ââ¬â¢ She said ââ¬ËHurry up. ââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ (252) The sum of it all is that through out the story the townââ¬â¢s people showed inhumanity through the acts that surrounded the lottery. Old Man Warner was the biggest supporter of the lottery even though he never supported why. The whole town supported him through and through tough it was morally wrong in many ways. Lastly the way the townââ¬â¢s people spoke and presented themselves showed nothing but inhumanity.

Reasons for Attending College or University Essay
Many people attend colleges and universities all over the world to study and conduct research. What are their expectations of the academic experience? In my opinion, people involved in collegiate programs have two main purposes: to gain the experiences and certificates that prepare them for future careers and to increase their knowledge about different aspects of life. Many people desire stable careers that deeply affect their lives. Therefore, good preparation for a future career is a necessity. To maintain and promote your position at a company, especially in certain kinds of jobs, you must have the knowledge and experiences that come from attending a college or university. The skills, spirit, and confidence you gain from studying help equip you for your work. Moreover, it is easier to find a good job when you have qualified certificates. Many well-educated people can carry out their tasks smoothly and methodically with more economization of time and strength than people who manage their work by learning from their failures. Another advantage of attending a college or university is the relationships you build with other people. These relationships help you improve yourself. In a collegiate environment, you learn how to work in groups and how to cooperate with your partners. You also learn to achieve mutual understanding, an essential and useful skill in your future work. The second reason for attending a college or university, increasing knowledge about many aspects of life, might seem a little impractical, but it is, in fact, very practical. Some people have the misconception that studying in college provides them only with knowledge relating directly to their major and that getting certificates is the most important purpose of attending college. With those goals in mind, they often neglect subjects that donââ¬â¢t seem to be applicable to their work. However, knowledge from college is not just useful for your job; it also is useful for many other things in life. For example, people with basic knowledge about literature, history, art, psychology, etc. might enjoy their lives more than unlearned people. They also might overcome difficulties and stress more easily, as well as have an acceptable and optimistic attitude toward obstacles and failures in their lives. Furthermore, cultivated people might treat others in their communities with more regard. Nothing you study in college is useless, and increasing knowledge is as important as getting certificates. The more knowledge you have, the more poetic your life is. Generally speaking, itââ¬â¢s always necessary to have a good education. In addition to obtaining the appropriate certificates, attending a college or university gives you a great opportunity to learn about many different things on both macroscopic and microscopic levels. While the specific reasons people attend colleges and universities might differ, the fundamental purposes are the same: they want to obtain the necessary training and education for their future careers and they want to learn about a variety of different subjects that will apply to their lives outside their future careers. Therefore, everyone who chooses to attend a college or university should always strive to reach their goals and aspirations. Analyzations of Emily Dickinsonââ¬â¢s Poems Essay
Emily Dickinson wrote multiple poems describing objects without ever saying the objectââ¬â¢s names. A few examples would be her poems ââ¬Å"Leaden Sieves,â⬠ââ¬Å"A Narrow Fellow in the Grass,â⬠and ââ¬Å"Route of Evanescence.â⬠These poems are similar to a riddle. In order to determine what her poem is about one must analyze the poems to identify what the object is by observing how appropriate the description is and how effective the language is in conveying the essence of the object. The first poem, ââ¬Å"Leaden Sieves,â⬠is about snow. The description and language was very clear to understand in this particular poem. Line 2 read, ââ¬Å"It powders all the Wood.â⬠Powder is white. The word ââ¬Å"powderâ⬠also suggests that the object gently covers something. More details that lead the reader to believe that the poem could potentially be about snow fall in the following lines, ââ¬Å"It reaches to the Fence/It wraps it Rail by Rail/Till it is lost in Fleecesâ⬠(9-11). These lines suggest that snow is covering the fence and itsââ¬â¢ rails. ââ¬Å"Till it is lost in Fleecesâ⬠is again suggesting that the object is white. Fleece is the coat of a lamb which is white. Lines 14-15 say, ââ¬Å"A Summerââ¬â¢s empty room/Acres of Joints, where Harvests were.â⬠These lines give the impression that it is the winter season. ââ¬Å"A Summerââ¬â¢s empty room,â⬠meaning that summer is gone and ââ¬Å"where Harvests were,â⬠imply ing that what used to be growth is now dead. Dickinsonââ¬â¢s poem, ââ¬Å"A Narrow Fellow in the Grass,â⬠is about a snake. The description and language was decently clear to understand in this poem. A reader can easily determine it is some type of creature that resides on the ground, but it is not very clear as to whether it is a snake or maybe a worm. When line 6 stated, ââ¬Å"a spotted Shaftâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ this gave assurance that a snake would be the more correct option since snakes can be spotted. ââ¬Å"A narrow Fellow in the Grass/Occasionally rides/You may have met Him-did you not/His notice sudden isâ⬠(1-4). These line imply that it is a creature that slithers on the ground, and also that it moves fast because it can happen a upon a person at a ââ¬Å"suddenâ⬠instant. Also the person in the poem mistook the object for a ââ¬Å"Whip lashâ⬠(13) which is a rope. A snake is shaped like a rope. ââ¬Å"Route of Evanescenceâ⬠is very short poem so itââ¬â¢s description is difficult to catch onto. The length of poem plays an important part in the poemââ¬â¢s language though. This poem is about a hummingbird. Line 3 says, ââ¬Å"A Resonance of Emeraldâ⬠describes the object as possessing a deep, beautiful green color. ââ¬Å"And every Blossom on the Bush/Adjusts itââ¬â¢s tumbled Headâ⬠(5-6) suggests flowers that are moving as if perhaps they have just been drank from by a hummingbird. The word ââ¬Å"rushâ⬠in line 4 and the short length of the poem implies that the object is something that moves fast and is there and then gone in a blink. The final poem (#585) is about a train. ââ¬Å"I like to see it lap the Miles/And lick the Valleys upâ⬠(1-2) suggests not only that the object moves but also that it can cover great distances by using the word ââ¬Å"miles.â⬠Also the object makes some type of noise. The following lines are two examples of the object having the ability to make noise, ââ¬Å"In horrid-hooting stanzaâ⬠(12) and ââ¬Å"â⬠¦neigh like Boanergesâ⬠(14). Lastly. the lines ââ¬Å"The-punctual as a Star/Stop-docile and omnipotent/At its own stable doorâ⬠(15-17) insinuates something arriving at a destination at a set time like a train does at a depot. Poems can describe objects without saying the objectââ¬â¢s names. Readers can determine what the poem is about by analyzing the poems, observing how appropriate the description is, and how effective the language is in conveying the essence of the object. Dickinsonââ¬â¢s poems ââ¬Å"Leaden Sieves,â⬠ââ¬Å"A Narrow Fellow in the Grass,â⬠and ââ¬Å"Route of Evanescenceâ⬠were riddles they were soon solved after a lot of analyzation.

Health Care Communication Methods Essay
Every day in the health care field, professional have to choose the most effective communication method when communicating to other professionals, patients, patient families, and the general public. Different circumstances have very specific methods of communication that need to be utilized for communication to be effective. Furthermore, in the health care field the regulations of HIPAA have to be considered to ensure that certain information is being protected as well as identity of people pertaining to the health scenarios. Further will be discussed the methods of communicating in the health care field, the advantages and disadvantages of using traditional, electronic, and social media for health care communicating, and the effects of HIPAA and other regulations on the use of media in the health care field of communicating. Communication coordinators of any health care field have to decide often which methods of communication he or she would have to utilize and the rules and regulations that govern those methods. In one scenario, a communication coordinator that works for a national drug manufacturer has received report that there has been a report of significant negative side effects caused by one of the medications that is used by a large population of people and one including a well-known public figure. News reports having been reporting that of the possible individuals who have been taking this particular drug is effected by the side effects. The communication coordinator has to decide how to address the news reports and the general public about this situation. There are many different ways to communicate with the general public regarding the scenario described. As mentioned before the communication coordinator has to reach out to the general public regarding a medication that was distributed by a national drug manufacturer company that lead to significant side effects. Some of the different methods of communication using media are campaigns, medical journals, news reports, blogs, and other social medias. For the specific scenarios described previously it would be best to use the ampaign method. A campaign would be used to increase awareness, create a better understanding, modify attitude, and modify behavior (Health Industry Communication, Ch. 5). This method may be used when reaching out to a significant sized population. ââ¬Å"The communication program will target whom, to help them understand, believe, or do what, by informing them of messages, through messengers and channels, to result in objectivesâ⬠(Cheesebro, T. , Oââ¬â¢Co nnor, L. , & Rios, F. , 2010, Ch. 5). The objective of utilizing the campaign method would reach out the larger population through possibly multiple different media methods, instead of just one or two. When considering using different types of media and which ones to include and exclude when communicating through media, it is important to consider the advantages and disadvantages of traditional, electronic, and social media. Traditional communication methods are the most common methods of communicating. This includes newspaper, journals, magazines, television, radio, and etc. While this might be considered one of the most effective methods compared to electronic and social media, there are disadvantages as well as advantages of traditional communication. One advantages of using traditional communication methods is this can reach a larger population which would then decrease the time it takes to reach the population by some other methods of communication. Another advantage of using traditional communication method is a larger part of the population uses this as resources to gain information for different point of interests. One disadvantage of using traditional communication methods is that it can be costly compared to some other communication methods. ââ¬Å"Traditional medias have a high effect in creating awareness and influencing the attitude of the audienceâ⬠(Tiwari, Singh, & Tiwari, 2003, p. 2). Electronic communication method also can be an effective way to communicate to the general public. Electronic communication includes email, phone calls, text messaging, video calling, and etc. Although not every method of electronic communication would be considered effective for scenario previously described, some such as email would assist with retrieving audience attention. Just like any other communication method, electronic communication method also has its advantages and disadvantages. An advantage of electronic communication method is it creates direct communication methods to the intended audiences which can begin to change audience attitude towards a circumstance before any other communication tactic takes into effect. One disadvantage of using electronic communication is there is a large section of the population that does not have access to electronics such as computers and internet. This population does not also have access to email and may not have easy access to a phone. Those people would then be more difficult to reach out to (Tiwari, Singh, & Tiwari, 2003). Another disadvantage may be the low literacy and language barrier of the population. Social media communication method is another way to communicate to the general public under different circumstances. Social media communication includes social sites such as Facebook, Twitter, online video sharing, podcasts, blogs, and etc. Although this may be an effective way to communicate to the public, there are advantages and disadvantages that come with social media communication. According to CDC (2011), â⬠In the last several years, the use of Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and other social media tools to disseminate health messages has grown significantly, and continues to trend upward. Using social media tools has become an effective way to expand reach, foster engagement and increase access to credible, science-based health messagesâ⬠(4). This also has an advantage because it reaches a larger population at a faster rate and costs less than some other methods of media communication. A disadvantage of using social media method in communication is the credibility of the resources may be still questioned by a large portion of the population. Another disadvantage of using social media communication is it may not reach all of the population to whom the topic is regarding. HIPAA plays a significant role in media communications. The essential functions of HIPAA regulations protect the privacy rights of patients and its users. When communicating health information, all health providers and any participants of health communication must ensure that the facts they wish to release are authorized and as accurate as possible (Nhanet, 2012). Any information released about any patients must be authorized by patients through written authorization and must follow federal and state guidelines. HIPAA prohibits any person communicating about health to public to disclose any information about patients even if it is general speaking of the patient. According to Hader and Brown (2010) ââ¬Å"Healthcare providers using social media must remain mindful of professional boundaries and their patientsââ¬â¢ privacy rightsâ⬠(p. 1). In conclusion, communicating through different media methods can be a useful source to communicate effectively to the public. Some methods are better than other, however all methods have different advantages when communicating to the public. There are also many disadvantages that are to be considered when implementing each method. There are also HIPAA regulations that have to be followed when communicating about patients or to patients regarding any facts and issues. The media is a way to communicate to a significant sized population when HIPAA laws are followed.
Public police system Essay
Science is derived from the Latin word scientia, which denotes, ââ¬Å"knowledgeâ⬠and it refers to any methodical knowledge-base or standpoint practice which is competent in ensuing in a forecast or predictable result. In its more ordinary limited sense, science refers to a method of obtaining facts based on a scientific technique. On the other hand, Art is the product or procedure of intentionally arranging components in a manner that appeals to the feelings or senses. It encompasses a variety of human activities, formations, as well as forms of expression, comprising literature and music. The denotation of art is examined within a branch of philosophy identified as aesthetics. The public police system is said to favor the science over the art due to a number of reasons: (Poulin, K. C & Nemeth, C, 2005) To start with, the public police system favors the science over the art because of the connection between art and the police. Art is inexorably understood as culture, which is a reflection of Trockiââ¬â¢s syntagm ââ¬Å"when I hear the word culture, I reach for my gun. â⬠The connection between the police and art explicitly discloses that the discourse of art is at all times understood as a sort of a joke in relation to the policeman. Here, the discourse of art is simply the one that relates to as well as mirrors the structure of power, represented and instituted by the policeman himself. (Poulin, K. C & Nemeth, C, 2005, p. 278) Secondly, the police favors the science given that science and technology play a crucial function in contemporary policing. For instance, police make use of forensic science to determine crime more effectively, forgive those who are not guilty as well as convict lawbreakers. Hi-tech information as well as communication systems makes it possible for officers to spent extra time connect with citizens and less moments engrossed with paperwork. In addition, the police favor the science because technology and cutting-edge science are employed in activities of terrorism and organized crime given that the police have to stay one step in front. (Poulin, K. C & Nemeth, C, 2005) Finally, the police use science and technology to fight crime by relying on a progressively more wide variety of sophisticated communications and information technology, other technologies as well as forensic science to serve the community. Some of the important technological and scientific tools that constitute police systemââ¬â¢s backbone include: the Police National Computer (PNC), the national fingerprint and DNA database, the Road traffic law enforcement technology as well as the Science and technology in the police force: the future. Childhood Protection and Child Rights; Lex ferenda; Breaking the Cycle Essay
Childhood Protection and Child Rights; Lex ferenda; Breaking the Cycle of Violence within the Child Phd Thesis - Essay Example According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there is no one "official" definition of mental health. To define Mental Health academicians rely on various theories from cultural differences, subjective assessments, and competing professional.1 This research project has sought its backing in principles of child psychology. By matching and comparing the definition of a ââ¬Å"childâ⬠in law and psychology, one realise the emerging truth of a lack of understanding in law-making, judiciary and legal pronouncements as to concepts, such as child vulnerability, child needs, and child resilience. In concrete words, what changes for a child who has been victim of sexual violence? What changes for a child who is working day and night in a factory? What changes for a child who is living on the streets? What changes for a child arrested? What changes for a child beaten up by police? Well, the first and foremost change is at the level of mental health. The way she thinks, the way she fee ls. Mental health of children is an important aspect of child-right study discourse. Through the understanding, one can assure the child is able to ââ¬Ëbounce backââ¬â¢ and recover from a difficult situation. What is important to realise is that the mental health promotion dealt with in this research is actually a promotion and prevention in the aftermath of a severe incident or process, in the childââ¬â¢s life. These are the promotion of a childââ¬â¢s special needs, and the prevention of long-term violent impacts on the society. The later chapters deal with the reactions and risks of un-dealt trauma, and societal progress linked to the wellbeing of its children. The research study does not per se differentiate between categories of children. The categories presented here are neither exhaustive nor exclusive. Mostly vulnerable children fall into many of the categories. For instance, street children can also be child labourers, and sexually abused. My

Case 2- Relevant Information for Decision Making Essay
Case 2- Relevant Information for Decision Making - Essay Example These decisions are based on many calculations, based on estimates and actual figures, prepared by the management accountants. One of the most appropriate approaches for decision making is ââ¬Ëdecision-relevant approachââ¬â¢. (Drury, 2004) In this paper, we have analyzed the given data using decision relevant approach. The first step in this approach was to identify the relevant and irrelevant costs of both the alternatives for comparison basis. As described by Drury, relevant costs and revenues are that income and expenses that are affected in the future because of making any decision. (Drury, 2004) 1) Direct Material Cost is a relevant cost for decision making, because if the outsourcing decision is taken, then no such costs will be incurred by BMC. Further, since there is no future obligation of the existing direct materialsââ¬â¢ contracts, therefore, no penalties or future obligations will be imposed on BMC on termination of these contracts. This means that direct material cost is taken as a relevant cost in calculating the total expense of manufacturing Global System navigator (GPSN), and no impact is taken to calculate the total expenses of outsourcing the production (buying from a contractor). 2) Direct Labor Cost is also a relevant cost for decision making because if the decision for outsourcing the production of GPSNs will be taken no such costs will be incurred. However, because of termination of the employment contracts, BMC will have to pay penalties of $66,000 annually for four years. Therefore, direct labor cost per unit is taken as the part of cost of manufacturing GPSN, whereas $ 5,500 is added in the monthly outsourcing expense ($66,000/12). 3) As it is given in the given data that because of failing quality control 2% of the units produced are discarded. Therefore, in order to meet the need for 8,000 products in a month 8,327 units should be manufactured by BMC. However, in case of outsourcing, BMC will buy 8,000 units from Far East Enterprises

What is the difference between trafficking and smuggling Essay
What is the difference between trafficking and smuggling - Essay Example Human smuggling involves bringing illegal aliens into a country, in addition to the illegal transportation and harboring of foreigners already in that country. On the other hand, human trafficking centers much on exploitation and is in most instances defined as sex trafficking whereby a commercial sex action gets stimulated by coercion, fraud or force or in which an individual forced to do such an action is a minor. It can also have the definition as the recruitment, transportation, harboring, obtaining and provision of an individualââ¬â¢s labor via coercion, fraud or force for the intention of subjection to forced servitude, debt bondage, slavery or peonage1. Generally, human trafficking and smuggling has become one of the greatest global problems and is considered to be among the worldââ¬â¢s most degrading and shameful crimes, that impacts on the lives of several individuals around the globe and robbing such individuals their dignity. The traffickers and smugglers deceive women, children and even men from all sections of the globe and coerce or force them into daily exploitative situations. Globally, trafficking is considered much worse than smuggling and the most identifiable type of human trafficking is trafficking that intends to put a victim into sexual exploitation. Most people, however, do not know that this crime takes place with the intention of child begging, forced labor, removal of body organs, and domestic servitude2. In 2005, the ILO estimates indicated that, worldwide, there exist about 2.4 million human smuggling and trafficking victims at any given instance. A recent research study on the overall trends of forced labor however would propose that the extent of the crisis is much greater. In Asia, for instance, more than 140,000 victims are forced into violent and humiliating conditions because of sexual exploitation. Additionally, one out of seven of the prostitutes in the region most probably ended up forced

Cross border management of companies in the extractive industry in Research Paper - 1
Cross border management of companies in the extractive industry in Africa - Research Paper Example Management of natural resources empowers the citizens in ways such as job creation. It also boosts the government revenue which in turn translates to diverse services provided by the government to its population. In 2011, mineral and oil export from the continent of Africa constituted a recognizable percentage worth billions of dollars when integrated with exports from both Asia and South America (Jackson, 2004). This figure when compared to the assistance the continent receives from developing countries is ten times more than aid offered. When oil was discovered in Ghana, in 2009, it raised hopes that this would result to improved standards of living. Attainment of these dreams though could not be achieved due to the deficit of proper regulatory structures to manage the complex oil sector. The neighboring Nigeria was also facing the same management challenges as successive governments depleted an estimation of $400 billion of crude oil sold dating back from the 1970s. However, the curse in the mineral and oil industries has taken a different trend in the recent past courtesy of radical management structures in the industry. Emmanuel Kuyole, Revenue Management Watch Africa Coordinator has lauded the bold step taken by both Ghana and Nigeria (Adeyele, 2013). For instance, in Nigeria, sovereign wealth fund was created to cater for astute management of the industries. This has enhanced hope that it would bring a long lasting solution to the countries extractive revenue management woos. Oil and gas laws in Ghana targeting the conduct of both international and local contractors together with how funds are managed by bodies in charge of proceeds has been called an innovation (Adeyele, 2013). Partnership between foreign and local companies has been effective in most African countries as far as exploitation of the oil and gas is taken into account. For example, Chevron a leading oil company has co-partnered with Bonga SW to

Trifles by Susan Glaspell Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Trifles by Susan Glaspell - Essay Example Wright as the main suspect, they cannot establish the motive why she wanted her husband dead. When the men left the women downstairs, as the women wandered about the cheerless house, they discovered what the men didnââ¬â¢t discover proving that the perspective of men and women about certain things are very different. The women realized how Mrs. Wright must have felt about her marriage and about her role in the house. The different things in the house actually symbolize how Mrs. Wright felt with her marriage. The jars of preserves crack under extreme cold temperature. This symbolizes the coldness of the Wright marriage. As the marriage grew cold, both cracked under pressure and eventually breaking the sanity of Mrs. Wright leading her to kill her husband. The last jar remaining intact that Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters want to give to Mrs. Wright, who was in prison, symbolizes the last hope remaining for Mrs. Wright retention of her sanity. The story also presents the status of women w ithin the society. Women are caged within the bounds of marriage, being slaves to their husbands. The bird in the cage symbolizes Mrs. Wright and her caged feeling within the marriage. The cage stands for the caged freedom of women when it comes to marriage. Mrs. Wright is described as a happy and cheerful woman before she got married. After her marriage, she began losing her cheerful self. The bird became her only link to her past self, but when her husband killed the bird, it seemed like he killed herself too. The dead bird was the missing motive. When the female characters hid the dead bird and its box, it was an act of rebellion against the patriarchal society. They understood why Mrs. Wright killed and they wanted to protect their kind from being discriminated even more. Even if they knew that she should be punished for the crime she did, they questioned who would have punished Mr. Wright for what he did to his wife. The method of killing Mr. Wright further emphasizes the desir e of women to be as equal as men. Strangling is a method of killing which requires strength. It was an unusual method of killing used by a woman as women are known not to have as much strength as men. But in this story, Glaspell allowed Mrs. Wright to kill her husband by knotting a rope around his neck. This establishes the need for women to become strong as men, if not physically, strength of the mind and the heart. When Glaspell wrote Trifles in 1916, the society was dominated by males. Women are struggling to find an equal stand in the society. Women are denied the right to vote and their roles in the workplace are severely limited. Womenââ¬â¢s roles are concentrated on child-bearing, child-rearing and household management. Glaspellââ¬â¢s Trifles emphasizes the desire of women to rise up to the devaluation and discrimination they are experiencing within the society. It bears a radical perspective, that women can have the same strength as men, that women can do the same thin gs as men, and that women can band together to fight the inequality and discrimination they are experiencing. For men, womenââ¬â¢s things and activities, such as housework and quilt-making, are mere trifles, things of no great value. And this is where the investigation reaches a dead end. Since they donââ¬â¢t see things as women do, they fail to see that the trifles are major evidences enough to establish the guilt and motive of Mrs. Wright. Menââ¬â¢s undervaluation of women actually created a void, a hole in the menââ¬â¢
